Malaysia has launched the world’s first ASEAN-focused travel television channel, GOASEAN, with the aim to introduce attractive destinations and cultural diversity in the region.

In an announcement made on March 9, Secretary General of the Malaysian Tourism and Cultural Ministry said that GOASEAN will be an ideal platform for tourism industry players in the region to showcase their unique products and services, contributing to boosting tourism growth, promoting intra-regional travel and enhancing mutual understanding among ASEAN countries.

It will be broadcast 24/7 with segments featuring shopping, sports, music, festivals and food in popular tourism destinations.

With increasing regional economic integration, ASEAN will be a strong development region with combined GDP of 3 trillion USD by 2017 and a consumer market of 650 million by 2020. Tourist arrivals to the region also grew substantially from 65 million in 2009 to 98 million in 2013.
