Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the first cabinet reshuffle since the general election in 2013 on July 28.

According to the Bernama News Agency, the PM appointed Minister of Home Affairs Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to replace Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Najib also terminated the services of Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail, Head of the investigation of embezzlement accusations relating to the State investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The reshuffle comes as Najib faces under pressure from leaked confidential documents that allegedly reveal that he received money from the fund.

The shuffle came one day after Najib requested Muhyuddin and others not to comment on the scandal, where nearly 700 million USD from the 1MDB is said to have been transferred to his personal account.

Earlier, the electronic portal Utusan Malaysia Online, the official portal of the ruling United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), said Najib had a meeting with Malaysian King Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam to submit his new cabinet member list.-VNA
