Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia (MITI) called for changes in all sectors and businesses to meet the demand of the fourth industrial revolution (I4.0) at a workshop held in May 2.

The workshop drew more than 500 participants from major enterprises, institutions and Government agencies, aiming to build the I4.0 branding for Malaysia.

MITI officials said that industrial sectors should lead the I4.0 and inner changes will be more sustainable.

The Government’s role is to raise public awareness about benefits of I4.0 and provide financial support for small- and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs), and create a close cooperation network, the MITI said.

The ministry also believed that I4.0 will tackle several issues of the Malaysian economy, especially its dependence on foreign workers when robots with artificial intelligence could replace them in repetitive tasks.

According to the MITI, the first step of I4.0 is to change the working and business methods as there are new styles such as Uber and AirB&B that are challenging traditional ones.-VNA
