The 13th general election in Malaysia started at 8 pm (local time) on May 5 at more than 8,200 polling booths across the country.

Around 13.3 million Malaysian voters are set to choose between another five years under the Barisan Nasional (BN) led by incumbent Prime Minister Najib Razak, which has been in power since the country's independence in 1957, and a historical regime change by bringing the opposition People's Alliance (known as PR) in power.

A total of 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state legislation seats are contested during the election.

Accordingly, the preliminary election results are expected to be announced several housrs after the election ends on 17h.-VNA
