Malaysia's parliament has passed the 2015 Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) by 79 to 60 votes.

The act targets those engaged in the commission or support of terrorist acts involving listed terrorist organisations in a foreign country.

The legislation allows authorities to detain terrorism suspects without pressing charges.

The law will not be used to stifle political parties or dissent, according to Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.-VNA
