The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Mangroves for the Future (MFF) will sponsor a mangrove protection project in the northern province of Nam Dinh.

IUCN and MFF will provide nearly 20,000 USD to carry out a project to help local people, focusing on women and young people, to use aquatic products sustainably in the mangrove forests of the Xuan Thuy National Park.

According to park director Nguyen Viet Cach, the project will be carried out in 2012 to help manage aquatic products in mangrove forests and wetlands in the park and contribute to implementing a strategy to preserve and develop the area sustainably.

Xuan Thuy National Park has nearly 3,000 ha of mangrove forests and nearly 10,000 ha of wetlands.

Up to one thousand people exploit aquatic products to earn a living in those areas every day, seriously affecting the ecosystem of the national park./.
