The Mekong Delta region received nearly 11 million holiday-makers in the first five months of this year, earning almost 2.57 trillion VND (120.6 million USD), a year-on-year increase of 27 percent.

The figure was revealed at a conference held in Can Tho province on June 6, which also discussed ways to promote the regional tourism sector in the remaining months of the year.

According to reports presented at the event, the number of foreign tourists to the region in the period surged 15.5 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching almost 803,700 arrivals.

Out of the regional localities, An Giang province recorded the largest number of visitors with 4.1 million, while Kien Giang ranked first in earning profit from tourism activities, with 647 billion VND (30.4 million USD).

In the coming time, the Mekong Delta Tourism Association, will work closely with localities to build specific products for each, while speeding up links between them to further promote regional tourism.

The Mekong Delta comprises of 12 provinces and one centrally-run city and is the country’s largest rice and fruit producing region.-VNA
