Farmers in the Mekong Delta are harvesting summer-autumn rice, earning an average profit of 10-15 VND (70-710 USD) per ha, according to the region’s departments of agricultural and rural development.

In this summer-autumn rice crop, farmers have had a high yield of 8-10 tonnes per ha. Traders are buying fresh paddy in fields at a price of 4,100-4,600 VND per kilogram, the Sai Gon Giai phong (Liberated Saigon) reported.

The Mekong Delta region, the nation’s largest granary, currently has a large-scale rice field area of around 100,000 hectares.

The rice field area in the Mekong Delta will be expanded to 800,000 hectares by 2020, equal to 20 percent of the annual rice-producing area of the region and producing an output of 4.5 million tonnes of brown rice, according to Vinafood 2.
