Thousands of gifts have been brought to children across the country in the lead up to the Full Moon Festival, a major event for young people in Vietnam .

Former Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen and head of the central board of health care and protection Nguyen Quoc Trieu have visited child patients who are receiving cancer treatment at the capital-based cancer hospital (hospital K), the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, and the Paediatrics Hospital.

A “Fairy Moon” festival was held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 5 with 800 gifts and 80 scholarships presented to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The same day, a special class was opened for child patients at the municipal Tumour Hospital , with the participation of around 80 pupils.

Meanwhile, non-profitable organisations and individuals from Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City and provinces of Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Can Tho, and Thua Thien-Hue have granted thousands of presents to poor and disabled children.-VNA
