The Minh Su Theravada Buddhist Sect held its second congress in Ho Chi Minh City on June 7 to review its activities during 2008-2013 period and put forward orientations for next 2013-2018 stage.

The event was attended by representatives from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation as well as more than 300 Buddhist monks and followers from 19 cities and provinces nationwide.

The congress held that its activities during the past tenure were held in compliance with the Party and State’s policies and laws on religious belief.

Addressing the event, Nguyen Thanh Xuan, vice head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, praised the Sect’s efforts to reinforce local Buddhist temples and actively carry out social work to build and develop the country.

The Committee wants the Sect to promote what it has made and surmount shortcomings to reach new achievements, Xuan said.

The congress honoured the Presbyterian council and elected members of the Sect’s central executive board for the new term.-VNA
