The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC) Central Committee and 10 other ministries and agencies will join hands to implement humanitarian activities in the 2013-2018 period.

An agreement to this effect was signed between the VRC and the Ministries of Public Security and Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ethnic Minority Committee, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, the Vietnam News Agency, Nhan dan (People) daily, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, the Vietnam Co-operative Alliance and the National Traffic Safety Committee in Hanoi on October 14.

Addressing the event, President Truong Tan Sang, VRC Honorary Chairman, urged Red Cross societies nationwide to mobilise all efforts to help victims of typhoon Wutip, which hit the central region in early October.

At the function, the VRC received 24 billion VND (1.14 million USD) in aid relief to help storm sufferers in the central region.

It also launched the 2014 “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims”, aiming to mobilise all resources in order to present one million gifts to one million disadvantaged households on the occasion of the 2014 traditional Lunar New Year (Tet).-VNA
