Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Science and Technology will push ahead with reforming activities in the field to serve national industrialisation and modernisation, Deputy Minister Pham Cong Tac said at a press conference in Hanoi on January 7.

The official reviewed significant outcomes in implementing the national development strategy on science and technology between 2011 and 2020, citing the growth of science-technology innovation reaching 10-15 percent in 2011-2015.

The number of scientific articles and research papers announced by Vietnam internationally increased on average by 19.5 percent per year.

The ministry will also focus on building future mechanisms, policy and law in science and technology, while getting the Government to agree to promote important documents such as the restructuring project through 2020, with a vision towards 2030 of integrating with the anticipated growth-model shift, and economic development.

In addition to displaying science-technology products, and forging supply-demand connectivity, the ministry activated a project to help neighbouring Laos train its science-technology management officials, as well as launched the Vietnam Silicon Valley Corner (VSVC) to bring venture capital and startups together.

In 2016, the ministry plans to change growth-models to increase productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy in the global integration, Deputy Minister Tac said.

He highlighted 2016 as a significant year for the sector to realise its five-year plan with key tasks, such as completing the revision and supplementation of some articles to the Law on Technology Transfer; initiating orientations, targets, and missions in the field by 2020; and reviewing State-level science-technology programmes in 2011-2015.

Particularly, the ministry will run major events in the first quarter of 2016 such as presenting press awards on science and technology achievements in 2015; the National Quality Awards; Ta Quang Buu Awards; Ho Chi Minh and State Awards.-VNA
