Hanoi (VNA) – A cultural extravaganza promoting ethnic minority groups’ vibrant traditional culture and customs will be held at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Son Tay Town on the outskirts of Hanoi from January 1-3.

The event was announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on December 24.

Visitors to the event will have a chance to enjoy ethnic cuisine and specialties as well as performances by ethnic minority amateur artists. They can also join in numerous folk games such as “con” throwing, sack jumping and hopscotch game, among others.

In particular, the organising board will dedicate a space to tug-of-war ritual and game, which were recently added to UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity icons. Tug-of-war is a folk game that is practiced in a number of traditional festivals and community events in northern Vietnam.

The daily life of Muong and Thai ethnic people will be introduced to local people and tourists during the programme.-VNA
