Representatives from the German state of Hessen presented 80 scholarships worth 216 EUR (294 USD) each to students studying at universities and colleges in Hanoi and neighbouring localities at a ceremony held in the city on July 11.

Last month, students in a number of other provinces and cities across the country were also given similar scholarships.

This is part of an education cooperation programme between the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and the Hessen State Ministry for Science and Art (HSMSA), which aims to encourage disadvantaged students and those from ethnic minority groups to successful accomplish their studies.

In the 2013-2014 academy year, as many as 200 scholarships of this kind were given to students in over 50 universities, colleges and vocational schools across the country.-VNA
