Southeastern and Mekong Delta provinces plan to provide vocational training in agriculture for over 67,000 rural workers this year to meet the demand on local human resource development.

Under their plans, nearly 2,500 vocational training classes are expected to open with a total expense of more than 78 billion VND.

In the first six months of this year, the plans have been carried out on schedule by provincial agricultural sectors, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

At a meeting in Tien Giang province on June 12 to review the training work, the Ministry asked the provincial agriculture sectors to prioritise rural labourers in new-style rural communes and concentrated production areas.

According to the Vocational Training Department of the Ministry of Labour Invalids and Social Affairs, in the 2010-2012 period, Mekong Delta provinces provided vocational training for more than 311,500 rural labourers, including over 136,800 workers in agriculture, making up over 28 percent of the country’s figure.

Meanwhile, southeastern provinces opened vocational training courses for 81,451 rural workers, including about 26,100 in agriculture, making up 7.5 percent of the country’s figure.-VNA
