Morocco is ready to work together with ASEAN member countries in global pressing issues, such as commerce, anti-terrorism fight and environmental protection.

Foreign Minister of Morocco Salaheddine Mezouar made the statement during his meeting with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh in Jakarta on April 24 on the sidelines of the Asia-Africa Conference.

He stressed his country’s interests in strengthening South-South cooperation and ASEAN’s role in the progress.

Morocco is striving to become a logistic and financial hub for the European, African and Middle East markets, he added.

It is exploring the possibility of building a roadmap promoting economic exchanges and investments in the bloc, he said.

Minh praised Morocco’s joining of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Southeast Asia and its wish to forge closer ties with ASEAN.

He named trade, investment, people-to-people connection and education as potential cooperative areas for the two sides.

He expressed ASEAN’s concerns about the violent rise of terrorist and extreme groups in Syria and Iraq, underlining the bloc’s commitment to working with the international community, including African and Middle East countries, in the fight.-VNA
