Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has allowed the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to sign a dossier seeking UNESCO recognition for the Mother Goddess worship as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The ministry has also joined officials from the Republic of Korea, Cambodia and the Philippines to submit multinational dossiers about their traditional tug-of-war games, which they hope will also be granted the honour by 2015.

The worship of the Mother Goddess is a folk belief that addresses the concerns believers have in their daily and their desires for good fortune.

Vietnam is already home to world intangible cultural heritage, including Nha Nhac (royal court music), Central Highlands gong playing, Quan Ho (love duets), Ca tru (ceremonial singing) and Hung King worshipping rituals.-VNA
