The worship is based on an ancient system of beliefs in the incarnation of various deities channeled through mediums and believed to provide good health and prosperity.

The ceremony showcased rites and art performances honouring the Mother Goddesses cultural and historical tradition.

Despite joy at the acknowledgment, many are now concerned about the practice being used to seek profit by some individuals and organisations.

Recently, the ceremony was held at festivals, fairs and pagodas which insiders said insiders said inappropriate places.

Previously, the practice was conducted only at temples and people singing Chau Van performed in those sacred spaces. Now, the re-enacting the practice to popularise it is necessary but rituals must be strictly followed.

The practice is in need of close collaboration between authorities, researchers and the community so that practitioners have appropriate understanding of the significance and value of the heritage.-VNA
