Hanoi (VNA) - The Goethe Institute will introduce a multimedia concert on January 9 in which pianist Cao Thanh Lan will perform with audio recordings and video projections.

As part of the concert series Listen Differently by the Goethe Institute, the concert promises to offer audiences a surprising and exceptional experience.

Lan will present experimental music by Olivier Messiaen (France) who was inspired by the singing of birds and Tom Rojo Poller (Germany) who processed texts from Alexander Kluge and Peter Ablinger (Austria) with the voices of historical figures.

In direct conversation with the audience between the individual pieces, the musician will discuss her artistic approach.

Lan was born in 1987 into a musical family. She is a versatile musician employing a wide range of stylistic influences, from classical to contemporary music and interdisciplinary works.

She studied piano for 12 years at the Hanoi National Conservatory before receiving a full government scholarship to study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where she earned both her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree.

For years, Lan has been interested in the aesthetics of piano sounds. She experiments with tones and timbres, and confronts acoustic piano with electronic sounds.

She is the winner of several national and international competitions, namely the Asian International Piano Festival and Competition in the Republic of Korea and the National Autumn Competition (Concours d'Automne). She has performed in the RoK, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Romania, the Netherlands as soloist and as a chamber musician.
Free tickets can be collected from the Goethe Institute, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Hanoi.-VNA
