Vietnam and other Asian countries need to be aware of their strength for mutual cooperation and development, Mayor of Tokyo Inose Naoki has said.

It encourages them to connect with one another to reinforce Asia’s power in the world, the mayor said at his meeting with students of the Vietnam National University in Hanoi on November 19.

The mayor is in Hanoi to attend the meeting of the Asian Network of Major Cities in the 21 st century.

The mayor also said that Tokyo , as the host of the Olympic Games in 2020, will show the world a country recovered from the earthquake and tsunami disasters in 2011. The event will also be an opportunity to express gratitude to the international community for their support to Japan during this hardship.

He went on to say that he has always received warm smiles from people in Hanoi, deeming hospitality as a specific identity of the Asian culture.

Responding to the students’ interest in Asia ’s potential strength, the mayor said the continent is seeing burgeoning growth. In 2011, gross domestic product of Asian countries contributed nearly 33 percent of the world’s total figure, compared to the 30 percent European nations account for.-VNA
