Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar security forces found evidence of some training camps secretly run by terrorists in Mayu mountain in Buthidaung-Maungtaw area of western Rakhine state, said the State Counsellor Office.

A statement of the office on June 22 noted that three armed attackers were killed during the area clearance operation by the security forces over the past two days.

In addition, security forces also discovered a secret tunnel and seized home-made weapons, huts, rations, utensils and other items used in the terrorist training.

Plotting to control and influence Maungtaw area, the terrorists had killed 34 innocent people and abducted 22 others, according to the statement.

Myanmar’s security forces also made a surprise raid in Kyungaung village on June 20, arresting a member of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) in charge of finance. The arrested confessed that the October 2016 attack on border police outposts in Maungtaw was carried out by the Islamic group Aqua Mul Mujahidin.

The attack, which killed five soldiers and eight policemen, led to the formation of a special investigation commission led by First Vice President U Myint Swe.-VNA
