Hanoi (VNA) – The Myanmar Government on October 21 announced that it will launch an investigation into a ferry capsize incident on October 15 and take legal actions against those responsible for the tragedy.

According to the latest information, as of October 20, 66 bodies, including those of 53 women were retrieved. Search operation for the missing ones continues.

The Aung Soe Moe Kyaw ferry capsized on October 15 in the Chindwin River at the section of Kanni for hitting a rock. Overloading was also blamed for the tragedy.

Of over 300 passengers on board, 158 survived and 80 others remain unaccounted for.

The administration of Sagaing area has established a fact-finding team for the tragedy.
