Hanoi (VNA) - A huge fire occurred at the Mingalazay market, one of the major markets in Myanmar 's Yangon city, announced local police on January 10.

The fire broke out in the morning of January 9, burning down three floors of the market with 1,638 kiosks and causing estimated losses of about 3.6 billion MMK (2.7 million USD).
Most of the destroyed kiosks sell cosmetics, medical equipment, and garments.

Around 600 firefighters together with 65 fire trucks rushed to the site. They needed four hours to get the fire under control and some firefighters were injured.

The blaze is now under investigation.

It was the second time that the Mingalazay market was severely burned down with the first being on May 24, 2010.-VNA
