Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar's Union Election Commission (UEC) on October 19 announced that a parliament by-election will be held on April 1 next year.

The by-election aims to fill 18 vacant seats, including nine in the House of Representatives (Lower House), three in the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and six in state parliaments.

The vacant seats were produced after some constituencies failed to hold the general election on November 7, 2015.

Other parliamentary seats were left empty after parliament members were appointed to the posts of cabinet members.

According to the timetable published by the UEC, the date for delivering ballots to overseas voters is set from November 15 to December 15. Candidates will register their names from November 28 to December 7.

The campaign is scheduled for January 30 -March 30, 2017. The results will be announced in the next four days from the by-election on April 1, 2017.-VNA
