Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Sinh Hung held a reception for Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon in Hanoi on May 23.

The Chairman hailed the UN chief’s current visit to Vietnam and his speech delivered at the ongoing ninth session of the 13th NA on the day.

Vietnam has actively participated in the UN’s forums and activities for a peaceful and prosperous world, Chairman Hung affirmed, hoping that the country will receive continuous support from the UN chief during the nation-building process.

He also briefed the guest on a number of key contents in the recently-passed Constitution, related to human rights, citizen rights, as well as orientations for national development integration.

For his part, the UN Secretary General expressed his impression with the fast development Vietnam has made over the past years, and said he believes that that the country will obtain more remarkable achievement in the future.

He appreciated the contributions made by Vietnam, and the NA in particular to developing important solutions to realise sustainable development goals and climate change adaptation.

He affirmed the UN’s support for Vietnam in implementing the millennium goals and commitments in the Hanoi Declaration adopted at the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly.-VNA
