National Assembly (NA) deputies gathered at a plenary session on June 4 during their ongoing fifth session to discuss the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution.

At the session, some 44 deputies from 34 provinces and cities made speeches, focusing on the constitution’s preface, the national anthem, and regulations in politics, economics, culture, health and education, along with State budget management and spending.

The role and leadership position of the Communist Party of Vietnam ( CPV ), the Vietnamese Fatherland Front and the Vietnam Trade Union, as well as human rights and citizens’ fundamental duties were also discussed.

Other topics raised at the session were on national defence, the function and authority of the NA, the NA Standing Committee, the Government, the People’s Procuracy, local authorities, the National Electoral Council and the Constitution Council.

The session, presided over by NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu, was televised for voters and compatriots nationwide to follow.

NA deputies will hear reports on thrift practices, waste prevention, and employment and bidding laws at a plenary session on June 5.

They will also discuss the Law and Ordinance building programme for 2014, and the legal amendments and supplements to Article 170 of the Enterprise Law.-VNA
