Hanoi (VNA) – The Social Affairs Committee of the 14th National Assembly convened its first plenary session in Hanoi on July 25.

Nguyen Thuy Anh, member of the 14th NA Standing Committee, was elected as Chairwoman of the Social Affairs Committee with 459 votes (92.91 percent) on the 14th NA’s first session on July 22.

The NA Standing Committee also approved four vice chairpersons of the Committee, five permanent members and 41 other members.

Chairwoman Anh said during the tenure, the committee will examine draft laws and ordinances drawn up by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs , including the Law on amendments and supplements to some articles of the Labour Code, the law on prostitution prevention, the law on amendments and supplements to some articles of the law on Vietnamese guest workers under contract, the laws on social sponsoring and social work, and ordinance regarding the implementation of policies to contributors to the national revolution .

The committee will also assess draft laws on population, blood and stem cells, transgenders, traditional medicine, and the revised Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, which were drafted by the Ministry of Public Health.

During the first session, members of the committee discussed their tasks from now until the 14th NA’s second session.

The committee will continue researching and building several draft laws and ordinances, while examining the inclusion of gender equality-related issues in draft laws, ordinances and resolutions of the NA and the NA Standing Committee; and its yearly plan to build laws and legal documents in the fields that the committee is in charge of.

The committee will also be involved in the decision-making process of key national issues.-VNA
