NA Standing Committee’s 9th meeting starts

Hanoi (VNA) – The 14th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on April 17 opened its ninth meeting which will run through April 22.

In her opening remarks, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the six-day meeting will be divided into two parts, with the first one focusing on law making and the second being question-&-answer sessions.

During this meeting, the committee will discuss several draft laws, including the Law on Support for Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises, Law on Management and Use of State Assets (revised), Law on State Compensation Liability (revised), Law on adjustments and supplementations to several articles of the Penal Code No.100/2015/QH13, Law on the Management and Use of Weapons, Explosives and Supportive Weapons, and Law on Planning.

Lawmakers have given their opinions on the six bills for the first time during the NA’s second working session. The law drafting committees have revised the bills based on the feedback and presented the latest versions to this meeting of the NA Standing Committee for discussion before submitting them to the third plenary session of the legislature.

Preparations for the NA’s third plenary session are also on the NA Standing Committee’s 9th meeting, with emphasis on the law and ordinance making programme for 2018 and adjustments to the 2017 programme, along with the draft programme for supervision work of the NA and NA Standing Committee in 2018.

Reports on the implementation of food safety laws and policies between 2011 and 2016, portfolio and funding allocation in the medium-term public investment plan from 2016-2020, the balance sheet of state budget in 2015 and a government report on thrift practice and anti-wastefulness in 2016 will also be put on the table, along with some draft resolution and projects.

The second part will feature several Q&A sessions where the policymakers will question Government members on policies for people who rendered service to the nation, vocational training for young people and demobilized soldiers and policemen; and the transformation and management of drug detoxification centres across the country.

Government members will also be required to explain to the NA Standing Committee issues related to the management of cyber information safety, the censoring of advertisements on the mass media and how to tackle the spread of false and distorted information on electronic media.- VNA
