The Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) will do its utmost, together with the Party and State, to consolidate and develop the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung made the remark while receiving visiting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Hanoi on October 14.

Hung said he believes that Li’s visit will contribute to strengthening political trust and mutual understanding between the two Parties, States and peoples, and promote the traditional friendly neighbourliness and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations.

He also expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to increase the exchange of delegations and information in a practical and effective way to strengthen their cooperation at regional and international parliamentary forums, contributing to enhancing cooperation between the two countries’ Governments and ministries.

Regarding sea-related issues, Hung stressed that the two sides need to control the situation, strictly follow their agreement on the basic principles guiding the settlement of such issues between Vietnam and China, and resolve disputes through peaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

On this occasion, NA Chairman Hung asked Premier Li to convey his invitation to Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time in 2014.

For his part, the Chinese Premier expressed his pleasure at the outcomes of his talks with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and meetings with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang.

He said he hopes the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, States, law-making bodies and peoples will further develop, bringing practical outcomes for both sides.-VNA
