Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong has expressed her wish that the World Health Organisation would work closely with Vietnam to control diseases, improve public health care, especially at the grassroots level, and train medical staff.

At a reception in Hanoi on September 19 for WHO’s Regional Director for the Western Pacific Shin Young-soo, Phong hailed bilateral cooperation over the past 40 years, particularly in epidemics prevention, health insurance, policy consultation and technical assistance.

In the near future, the Vietnamese NA will improve the quality of legislation, supervision and deciding on key national issue in public health care, she said.

Phong wished that the WHO would update Vietnam about the global and regional health information so that the Vietnamese Government could lay out appropriate solutions.

Shin, for his part, wished for enhanced collaboration with Vietnam, including the NA.

Amid new challenges in food safety, environment and transport safety, Shin asked the Vietnamese Government and NA to build effective laws to ensure the people’s health.-VNA
