Vietnam rejects foreign interventions into its internal affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga said on Aug. 9 following comments by the US and EU regarding the Court of Appeals’ affirmation of the verdict against anti- State agitator Cu Huy Ha Vu.

The court upheld a sentence of seven years imprisonment againts Vu for conducting propaganda against the State, plus three years’ probation under house arrest.

“We reject comments interfering in Vietnam ’s internal affairs,” said Nga.

“Vietnam is a law-bound country. As in other countries, all violations have to be treated as regulated by Vietnam ’s laws, which are in conformity with international law, including the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights.”

The spokeswoman said there are no so-called “prisoners of conscience” in Vietnam .

In Vu’s case, the due sentence was handed to the right criminal, she said./.
