Hanoi (VNA) – Lawmakers adopted the draft Civil Code (amended) with 86.84 percent of votes in favour during the ongoing tenth session of the 13th National Assembly in Hanoi on November 24.

With six parts, 27 chapters and 689 articles, the revised Civil Code stipulates legal status and standard on the conduct of individuals and legal entities, rights and obligations on assets of individuals and legal entities in relations formed on the basis of equality, freedom of will, property independence and self-responsibility.

The draft code will take effect from July 1, 2017 to replace the Civil Code No. 33/2005/QH11.

The legislators also approved rules of the National Assembly’s sittings which include three chapters and 56 articles.

The rules say the legislature convenes two sittings every year with the first beginning on May 20 and the second on October 20.

If the two dates fall on Friday or holidays in accordance with law, the opening session will be held on the next working day.

If the session is postponed in case of force majeure, the date of the sitting will be decided by the National Assembly Standing Committee.

The opening session of the first sitting of the National Assembly will be set by the National Assembly Standing Committee of the previous legislature no later than 60 days since the date of the parliamentary election.

The National Assembly Standing Committee will also fix the date for the opening sessions of the last and extraordinary sittings.

During the November 24 working session, 88.26 percent of deputies voted for the draft resolution on the issuance of rules of sittings of the National Assembly to replace Resolution No. 07/2002/QH11 adopted at the second sitting of the 11th National Assembly on December 16, 2002.
