A delegation of the National Assembly led by Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong left Shanghai on Jan. 8 for Tokyo to attend the 20th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, concluding their five-day working visit to China.

In her meeting with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai municipal People’s Congress, Liu Yungeng, Phong spoke highly of the city’s socio-economic achievements, turning it into one of the major economic hubs in China as well as in the region and contributing to the country’s economic growth.

She hailed cooperation activities between Shanghai and Ho Chi Minh City and asked Shanghai to continue assisting and sharing experience in urban planning, infrastructure construction for social welfare and economic development with HCM City and other cities of Vietnam .

During her visit to China , the Vietnamese NA Vice Chairwoman held a meeting with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress Wu Bangguo and held talks with Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress Lu Yongxiang.

At the meetings, she briefed the Chinese officials on Vietnam ’s socio-economic development and activities of the 13th National Assembly.

She stressed the importance of maintaining a stable Vietnam-China relationship on the basis of common perceptions of the two countries’ senior leaders, saying that this will benefit both peoples and nations, in their renewal process and socio-economic development as well as the stability in the region and the world.

The Chinese leaders expressed their pleasure at the visit of the Vietnamese NA delegation, saying that the visit will continue deepening the two countries’ relations, increasing mutual understanding and trust.

They affirmed that China places importance to developing traditional friendship, all-round cooperation with Vietnam for common benefit of the two peoples and for peace and stability in the region.

The two sides agreed that cooperative relations between the two countries’ legislative bodies should be strengthened and the exchange of visits, information and experience between the two peoples and mutual support at multilateral forums be increased./.
