A national online meeting will be held on December 20 to seek ways to speed up the search for and collection of fallen soldiers’ remains, according to Major General Tran Van Minh, head of the Defence Ministry’s Social Policy Department.

The Major General, who is also Head of Office of the national steering board for searching and gathering martyr’s remains, said the event will be attended by representatives from the Ministry of Defence, all military zones and 63 provinces and centrally run cities.

The search for the remains of those who laid down their lives for national liberation and re-unification during wars has started immediately after the war. A total of 939,462 sets of remains have been found and reburied in the country, 15,989 sets were brought home from Laos and another 14,549 sets from Cambodia.

However, more than 200,000 martyrs remain unaccounted for.-VNA
