The government will allocate rice to citizens in the central region hit by typhoon Doksuri. This is part of efforts to ease the consequences of the biggest storm to hit Vietnam in years.

This used to be the house of Đinh Thị Diệu’s family. Now it is only ruins left by storm Doksuri. The whole house collapsed and all the appliances are wet. Kid’s books were also buried.

No money, no food, we don’t know how to rebuild our house. We are just looking forward to the support so that we can stabilise our life soon.

The storm also swept away the house of Dinh Thi Hong Tuong’s family after nine years of hard work. The house collapsed, so rice and house appliances are lying under the sun. Her whole family is now living in a small tent.

We are calling for support from our relatives to lend more to rebuild our house.

Doksuri left more than 10 people dead and missing and more than 200 injured.

The typhoon destroyed over 200,000 houses, flooded nearly 4,500ha of rice and over 8,200ha of other crops. It also ruined 10km of national highways and many local roads.

Over recent days, organisations and individuals across the country have joined hands to help the storm victims.

In the latest move, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc decided to allocate rice to the victims. Quang Binh province will receive 3,000 tonnes.

The PM also assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to provide rice and vegetable saplings to farmers in the two localities.-VNA
