The Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Vietnam – Romania Friendship Association convened its first congress on April 19, expecting to strengthen mutual understanding and diversify joint activities across trade, science-technology, and health care.

A 25-member executive board led by Chairman Nguyen Sy Thang was elected for the 2014-2019 tenure.
Romanian Ambassador Valariu Arteni, in his speech, expressed belief that the freshly-established chapter will play a productive role in the Romanian embassy’s activities in the city and the southern localities.

Establishing bilateral diplomatic ties in 1950, Vietnam and Romania have facilitated regular high-level visits and worked closely together at global forums and organisations.

Romania has trained about 4,000 Vietnamese students and officials. At present, nearly 1,000 Vietnamese are working in the European country and some 8,000 Romanians are in Vietnam.-VNA
