Nguyen Thanh Ngung set a new national record at the ongoing HCM City Open International Track and Field Tournament at Thong Nhat Stadium.

Ngung completed a men's 10,000m walk with a time of 45min 17.51sec, beating the record of 46:37:35 established in December 2009 by Thai Binh's Hoang Van Them.

Indonesia 's Hendro Hendro and Vietnam 's Nguyen Van Tu finished second and third, respectively.

Filipinos dominated the men's long jump, claiming gold and silver.

In the men's 800m, Dac Lac's Pham Cao Son took gold while Nam Dinh's Pham Thi Ngot won the women's event.

In the first day, Dao Van Thuy cleared 2.13m in his first attempt to win gold medal. Vietnam 's high jump record (2.25m) holder Nguyen Duy Bang, who is trying to return after a long absence from international competition, had to settle for a silver medal.

Bang's most recent international competition occurred when he won a gold medal at Hong Kong two months ago.

Nam Dinh's Tran Thanh Trung claimed a gold medal at men's 100m with a time of 10.80sec and Hanoi 's Nguyen Thi Thuy won a gold medal in the women's 100m after crossing the line at 11.91sec.

An Giang's Le Ngoc Phuong, who won silver at the 15th SEA Games in Laos two years ago, is a disappointment when she only finished second

Le Thi Lai won gold in the women's shot put while the Philippines ' Sunang Eliezer took gold in the men's shot put. The Repbulic of Korea's Jung-hye Kyung clinched gold in the women's long jump.

In the women's 5,000m event, Nguyen Dang Thanh Thuy of Khanh Hoa won a gold medal.
