The Mekong Delta Economic Cooperation Forum (MDEC) 2014, themed "Structuring Agriculture – Building New Rural Areas in the Mekong Delta" will be held in Soc Trang province from November 5 to 7.

This annual event aims to enhance cooperation between Mekong provinces and other localities across the countries, ministries and Government agencies, and international organisations, according to Nguyen Phong Quang, deputy head of the Steering Committee for the Southwest Region.

The MDEC – Soc Trang 2014 will include such major events as Mekong Delta tourism, trade and investment promotion conference, Mekong Delta business forum, community awareness and responsibility improvement conference in adaptation to climate change and rising sea levels in the Mekong Delta.

The main activities of the forum will coincide with the renowned Ok Om Bok Festival of the Khmer ethnic people, aiming to promote tourism, investment and trade, organise sporting and artistic activities, and introduce local traditional cultural values to domestic and international friends.

To prepare for the MDEC – Soc Trang 2014, the Steering Committee for the Southwest Region has organised fact-finding tours to the Mekong Delta for representatives from 26 Japanese companies.-VNA
