Ninety-five foreign non-governmental organisations (NGO) have committed 165.5 million USD in aid to Vietnam’s poverty reduction in 2012.

The commitment was made at a ceremony hosted by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) in Hanoi on Nov. 17 to honour foreign individuals and the NGOs for contribution to peace, solidarity, friendship, poverty reduction and development in Vietnam this year.

At the event, VUFO presented certificates of merit to 121 individuals and NGOs who made outstanding achievements in promoting solidarity with Vietnam and served as a bridge for foreign businesses operating in the country.

This year, foreign donors funded over 270 million USD to assist Vietnam in the fields of healthcare, community development, assisting rural areas, dealing with social issues, education, emergency aid, environmental protection and minimising the impact of climate change.

Over the past decade, foreign NGOs have provided nearly 1.7 billion VND in non-refundable aid to Vietnam, focusing on the fields of economic development, healthcare, education, poverty reduction, dealing with social issues, overcoming the aftermath of war, rescue and disaster prevention, mainly in poorer regions./.
