Vietnam has not yet detected any novel Corona virus-infected case, said Deputy Health Minster Nguyen Thanh Long on May 16.

However, he recommended people to take various measures to prevent the illness such as eating only well-done food and drinking clean water, washing hands with soap, and increasing immunisation by a reasonable diet, especially when as many as 40 people in the world were found infected with the new virus, 20 of whom died.

People were also asked to immediately go to medical clinics for check-ups and treatment if they find such symptoms as coughing, sneezing, fever, dyspnea, muscle pain, and tiredness.

According to Long, the health sector has requested the epidemic agencies at all levels to closely supervise travellers coming from the epidemic-infected areas at airports and border gates.

Any case with severe symptoms of respiratory diseases or any unusual signs will be examined, he said, adding that all medical stations are guided to increase medicine, equipment and human resources to be ready to deal with the epidemic if it happens.

The new virus, known as novel coronavirus (nCoV), is from the same family of the virus causing the deadly outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) that emerged in Asia in 2003.

Found in September 2012, the nCoV, which causes the death for 66.7 percent of the infected, seems to be able to pass between humans, but only after prolonged, close contact. However, there has been no evidence proving its massive human-to-human transmission in the community.

In Vietnam , the Ministry of Health issued measures to fight this deathly virus right after it was detected.-VNA
