No new deaths from measles were reported in Vietnam on May 6, despite 50 new patients being diagnosed with the infectious disease on the day.

A ccording to the Ministry of Health’s Department of Preventative Medicine, 15 out of the country’s 63 cities and provinces did not record any new cases of measles. However, the national total of infections now stands at 4,135 for this year.

As of May 6, the rate of children who have received measles vaccinations increased to 90.9 percent, up 4.4 percent from one day earlier, with 24 localities achieving rates of over 95 percent.

However, three provinces still recorded vaccination rates of under 70 percent: Dien Bien in the north, Binh Thuan in the central region and An Giang in the south.

The Health Ministry has asked localities to intensify measures to contain the outbreak.-VNA
