Hanoi (VNA) – The occupancy rate at active industrial parks (IPs) nationwide in January-July was about 73 percent, according to the Management Department of Economic Zones under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

In the 7-month period, five new IPs were established or given green light to set up on a total area of 1,882.6 ha, while one had its licence withdrawn and another was excluded from the national planning.

As of the end of July, the country had 328 industrial parks covering 96,300 hectares, of which 223 had become operational.

The country had 16 newly-established economic zones covering approximately 815,000 hectares and plans to set up two coastal economic ones in northern Thai Binh and Nam Dinh provinces.

IPs and economic zones have so far attracted 7,757 foreign-invested projects with combined capital of 163.9 billion USD, around 58 percent of which has been disbursed.

The zones are also accommodating 8,052 domestic projects.

Additionally, 87 percent of the 223 operational industrial parks have built waste treatment plants, fulfilling the National Assembly’s set target.
