A total of 62 farmers across the country who have made outstanding performance in production and building new-style rural areas will be honoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 15.

The programme, coorganised by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Popularisation and Education and the Vietnam Farmers’ Association Central Committee, will be broadcast live on the VTV1 channel of the Vietnam Television, the organising board said at a press briefing on October 7.

The event aims to recognise and promote the role Vietnamese farmers play during the cause of national construction, defence and development.

The awardees, including 13 female and five ethnic people, are selected from 114 farmers nominated by localities nationwide.

They have set bright examples in implementing the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws while proving their dynamism and creative thinking in production. Not only making profit for themselves, these farmers also help others to escape poverty by creating jobs as well as sharing knowledge and experience, while actively taking part in social and welfare activities.

On this occasion, the Nong Thon Ngay Nay (Countryside Today) newspaper and the Binh Dien Fertilizer JSC launched a writing contest to promote good examples to nominate for the title of “Outstanding Vietnamese farmer 2014”.-VNA
