Thanh nien (Young People) newspaper and General Director of Kangaroo Group Nguyen Thanh Phuong have won ASEAN youth awards for their excellent contributions to the country and the regional community.

A ceremony to present the ASEAN Ten Accomplished Youth Organisations (ASEAN TAYO) and the ASEAN Youth Award was held in Hanoi on November 12 as part of the 19th ASEAN Youth Day, hosted by the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam (NCYV).

Addressing the event, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee Nguyen Dac Vinh, head of the NCYV, said the ASEAN Youth Day manifests a joint determination to honour organisations and individuals with outstanding performances in upholding the role and strength of the youth in their countries and the ASEAN region at large.

NCYV has been working with youth organisations inside and outside the country to create favourable conditions for the youth to perfect themselves in both physically and spiritually, thus gradually improving their leadership and international integration skills, he added.

Vinh affirmed Vietnam’s continued contributions to building ASEAN into a harmonious, friendly and united community for stability, peace and development.

He took the occasion to convey deep sympathy to victims of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, calling upon ASEAN youth organizations to have practical initiatives and activities to help them surmount disaster consequences.

ASEAN TAYO aims to recognise youth organisations in ASEAN countries for organising numerous significant activities in the fields of environment protection, culture-education, employment, health and voluntary activities. Meanwhile, ASEAN Youth Award honours outstanding ASEAN individuals with great contributions to the community.

The ASEAN Youth Day offers a chance for youth organisations and individuals to share information, experience and initiatives to strengthen their mutual understanding and cooperation for an ASEAN community of solidarity and prosperity.-VNA
