Over 5.8 trillion VND (280 million USD) will be poured into a national target programme on pollution mitigation and environmental improvement in the 2012-2015 period.

According to the Ministry of National Resources and Environment, the programme will focus on solving pollution at 47 seriously polluted craft villages and 100 sites contaminated by pesticide residues.

It will treat wastewater discharged into the basins of the Nhue-Day, Cau and Dong Nai rivers.

Statistics show that Vietnam has about 3,500 traditional craft villages and 1,000 of them now need financial support to deal with environmental pollution.

The pollution in villages includes waste water disposal, mounting piles of garbage and air pollution from the burning of toxic substances used in small production.-VNA
