Hanoi (VNA) – More than 66,200 local people and foreigners paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum between April 29 and May 2, according to Hanoi Police.

President Ho Chi Minh was born on May 19, 1890 in Kim Lien commune, Nam Dan district, the central province of Nghe An. He devoted all of his life to the national liberation cause while tirelessly striving for peace and progress in the world.

He led the nation to success in the struggle for national independence and in establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam following the August Revolution in 1945.

The President passed away in 1969.

The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Management Board has over the past four decades performed well the task of preserving the body of late President Ho Chi Minh.

The mausoleum opened to the public on August 29, 1975, and has welcomed more than 52 million visitors as of 2016.

Efforts have been made to maintain and upgrade the mausoleum and surrounding area, making it a highlight of Hanoi and a tourist destination.

Scientists of the former Soviet Union and now Russia have taken part in the long-term conservation of the late leader’s body.-VNA
