Hanoi (VNA) – Only 23 percent of the 977,684 Vietnamese language domain names registered are in active use, the Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC) announced on March 1.

The VNNIC said that it has informed owners of the domain names which are out of date or not put in use after years of registration in order to help them actively implement procedures to maintain their domain names.

In the time ahead, the centre will also purify and free inactive domain names, so they can be re-registered by other subjects.

The Vietnamese domain name “.vn” is still leading ASEAN in the number of registrations, according to the VNNIC.

Vietnam is ranked seventh among the top 10 Asian countries for the largest number of national code top-level domains.-VNA
