Vietnamese Ambassador Ta Minh Chau highlighted Vietnam ’s achievements in all fields, which, he said, were partly contributed by the Vietnamese community.
He wished overseas Vietnamese good health and success and said he hopes they further join in promoting the Vietnam-Laos special friendship.
On behalf of the Lao Party and Government, Deputy Prime Minister Thonglun Sisoulith extended his best regards to the Vietnamese Party, State and people.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia hosted a reception the same day, during which Ambassador Nguyen Xuan Thuy urged overseas Vietnamese to make further contributions to national construction in their homeland.
On behalf of the State Commission on Overseas Vietnamese, he presented a certificate of merit to Do Anh Dung for his contributions to the development of Vietnamese community in Indonesia and to the country’s development.
A similar event was also held by the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK on Jan. 15.
Ambassador to the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Vu Quang Minh presented the Prime Minister’ certificates of merit to three overseas Vietnamese for their efforts to consolidate solidarity in the Vietnamese community in the UK .
Meanwhile, the France-Vietnam Friendship Association Dreux City , 80 km southwest of Paris , held a get-together with the participation of overseas Vietnamese and French friends.
Participants at the event were told that in late 2011, with the assistance of French friends, the association sent a batch of health equipment and medicine to people in disadvantaged areas in Vietnam .
On Jan. 14, the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada held a reception to celebrate Tet holiday. The event drew the participation of overseas Vietnamese and foreign friends.
On behalf of Canadian friends, Chief of Protocol of Canadian Foreign Affairs Margaret Huber extended best wishes to Vietnamese friends, affirming that the Canada-Vietnam relations are experiencing fine developments.
Last weekend, over 1,000 Vietnamese people in Thailand gathered at a festival in Mueng town, Ubon Ratchathani province to welcome the traditional new year 2012.

Ambassador Ngo Duc Thang expressed his pleasure at the fact that two-way trade turn over between Vietnam and Thailand increased by 50 percent to, reaching 9.3 billion USD last year.
He said he hopes that the two countries’ ties will further develop in 2012 after the two leaders agreed to lift bilateral relations to a new height, looking towards the strategic partnership.
On this occasion, Vietnamese artists performed songs and dances praising the homeland./.
