The economic watchdog of Vietnam’s Communist Party has pledged to coordinate more closely with the Southwestern Region Steering Committee (SRSC) to achieve greater socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta.

The Economic Commission of the Party’s Central Committee signed an agreement on coordination with the SRSC in Can Tho city on August 13, stating that the two sides will jointly participate in studying the region and issuing policies to boost its development.

Together they will organise workshops and implement science research projects related to economic development, environmental protection and climate change response.

Head of the Economic Commission Vuong Dinh Hue said the heightened coordination would help maximise the efficiency of socio-economic development projects in the region.

The two sides have already implemented several important projects to foster development in the country’s south, including accelerating the implementation of the Phu Quoc special economic zone project and developing new rural models for local towns and villages.

Deputy Head of the SRSC Nguyen Phong Quang backed the new agreement and confirmed that it would have a positive impact on the Mekong Delta region.-VNA
