Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has underscored that the Economic Commission of the Party Central Committee should demonstrate its important role as the top agency to give strategic consultations, research and proposals to the Party.

He made the statement during a January 11 working session with the commission in Hanoi.

The Party Chief said since it was reestablished in early 2013, the commission has shown sound performance in giving advice, proposals and supervision on significant issues of the national strategic socio-economic development.

In 2014, the commission should focus on three key tasks, including researching proposals, assessing projects and reports, and supervision.

To fulfil the tasks, it should exert more effort in perfecting its structure, setting up improved operational regulations and deepening relations with relevant central and local agencies, he said.

The Party leader also emphasised that 2014 is an important year when the country will review the results of 30 years of renovation. The reality has shown that the country is facing many new socio-economic problems. Therefore, reviewing is an important requirement, he said.

He also asked the commission to better assess proposals submitted to the Party Central Committee, Politburo and Secretariat in 2014.

Meanwhile, it should ensure the progress, quality and quantity of its work, he said.

According to Vuong Dinh Hue, head of the commission, in 2013 the agency implemented all 12 assigned research tasks, including the assessment of the report on the implementation of the resolution of the 11 th Party National Congress on the socio-economic development in the 2011-2013 period.

Last year, the commission completed all 15 proposals submitted to the seventh and eighth sessions of the Central Party Committee, as well as the Politburo and Secretariat, he said.-VNA
